What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a non-invasive physical therapy that is based upon the same traditional medical principles as Chinese acupuncture. However, since there is no use of needles, a Shiatsu practitioner aims to identify and correct imbalances in the body using a range of techniques that may include direct pressure on acupressure points, stretches and joint mobilisation.

What happens during a treatment?
Shiatsu treatments are received fully clothed, The session usually takes place on a futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu sitting on a chair if you are uncomfortable lying down.
Treatments are tailored to the individual and will be different for each client and each session. Sessions last for about an hour, the first session may be slightly longer since your practitioner will take a detailed case history to develop a complete picture of your health according to the principles of oriental medicine. However the time will be mainly focused on working with the body.
When coming for a treatment it is advisable to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes.
